Lifemeter

Look at the ever changing sidebar over there. The pictures shift downwards with a stream of slices of my life.

As a plane approaches the sound barrier, sound waves become visable on the wings.

If you only read one thing today, READ THIS.

The most relevant article on dance music, music and culture I've read in a long time. Also go read everything Momus has written. You will get it.

Summer Solstice

Today is the longest day of the year. Yesterday was my 28th birthday, thanks to all who wished me well.

I found out my co-worker, Yi Peng shares my birthday, only 13 years earlier. Gemini-Cancer cusps unite! Her boyfriend was born on the 19th of June. The world turns and gets smaller and smaller.

..and it gets bigger and more amazing everyday.

Tonight is known as mid summer's night eve, and it's when the gates to the other side are opened a little bit and elves and fairys and santa claus all come out to play. It's also considered the time of various sun gods, like the Egyptian's Ra. What does this all mean...I don't know..maybe I'll burn one at midnight and see what shows up?

Raymi's blog rules

It's bloomday and I missed the 7:40 train again. Fucking traffic in the back country! I need more money.

"What is time, when we have all eternity to enjoy this paradise?"

So, I said no. Like, as in in "just say no". Amazing isn't it? Most who know me may be surprised. I was. It makes me happy to know that such will-power exists within me.

Not that I'm saying no for good.

Just a small step for Dan.

If anyone out there has tried 2C-I (some say it is orgasmic) and wants to recommend it, let me know. I will probably try it this weekend, regardless, in the name of science...of course.

"You look like the responsible one".

WHo me?

At my friend's wedding a few weeks ago, I was mistaken for the "resposible" friend out of our group. The time came for designating drivers and was the prime candidate. I found this funny considering my reputation but this statement is quickly becoming a reality.

A somewhat seismic shift is occuring in my consciousness. Due to a radical re-focusing of my life, things are falling into place with the presision of dominos. I have NEVER thought I could feel the way I do now. It's that big.

"You should quit that bullshit job and come hang out more!"

Hey dog, thanks for the advice but larger forces are at work than just getting fucked up (as much as I would enjoy it!).

WHo is the master that makes the grass green?

Peace and Love, Man. Fuck this...

Pending Draft Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005
The Draft will Start in June 2005

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan - fiscal year 2004.

The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/na...s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era.

College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

Even those voters who currently support US actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a
shelter and includes women in the draft.

The public has a right to air their opinions about such an important decision.

Please send this on to all the friends, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and cousins that you know. Let your children know too -- it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!

Please also contact your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills -- and contact newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.

THINGS YOU DIDN'T DO

"There was a girl who gave me (Leo Buscaglia) a poem, and she gave me
permission to share it with you, and I want to do that because it
explains about putting off and putting off and putting off -
especially putting off caring about people we really love. She wants
to remain anonymous, but she calls the poem, "THINGS YOU DIDN'T DO"
and she says this":

Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and I dented it?
I thought you'd kill me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach, and you said it
would rain, and it did?
I thought you'd say, "I told you so." But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you
jealous, and you were?
I thought you'd leave me, but you didn't.

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over your car
rug?
I thought you'd hit me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal and
you showed up in jeans?
I thought you'd drop me, but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do,
But you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me.

There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you
returned from Viet Nam.

But you didn't.

Leo Buscaglia
